CLIC Innovation: From research to market success

According to Jatta Jussila, CEO of CLIC Innovation, a key issue across Europe’s innovation ecosystem is that too few publicly funded research results are commercialized or applied in real life. In Finland, international collaboration also needs improvement—without it, progress is slow and market potential remains untapped.

CLIC Innovation facilitates the green transition through cross-sector cooperation, focusing on energy, bioeconomy, and circular economy. As a non-profit, it builds and coordinates research and innovation projects aimed at generating knowledge and technologies that can be brought to market as business solutions.

“Energy transition is not just about technology—it’s about society’s and the market’s ability to transform. We must lead the shift toward new systems and value chains and implement solutions effectively”

CLIC acts as an ecosystem orchestrator, enabling collaborative solutions to complex challenges like the energy transition. No single actor can drive this shift alone—it requires international dialogue and coordinated market development across Finland, Europe, and globally. CLIC plays a central role in facilitating this conversation.

As national energy strategies diverge—Germany tied to gas, France focused on nuclear, Norway reducing electricity exports—Finland must ensure its energy system can withstand harsh winters and provide affordable power. CLIC also engages at the EU level, pushing for regulation that sets clear goals and frameworks, while letting the market decide on technology solutions.

With an increasing number of international projects, CLIC connects Finnish companies with leading global players. It fosters cross-sector collaboration between businesses, academia, and the public sector—encouraging especially SMEs to take part in open dialogue. This cooperation helps identify opportunities and challenges from multiple perspectives and opens doors to international partnerships and sustainable innovation.
