The project’s objective is to integrate circular design, modeling, and demonstrate various applications, incorporating an initial end-of-life plan. It also explores end-of-life solutions, such as material identification and system-level approaches, addressing the current lack of recycling solutions and circular economy-based post-use applications for products available on the market today.
With a budget exceeding €3.4 million, ABiCo is a co-innovation project funded by Business Finland. The research consortium is led by VTT and supported by LAB University of Applied Sciences (process techniques, project management, and communications), Åbo Akademi University (fire retardants), University of Eastern Finland (bio-additives), and LUT University (circular design and end-of-life aspects).
Industry partners include Metsä Fibre and Fortum as leading company program partners of ExpandFibre, with Brightplus and Tonester Durat as parallel RDI partners. Additionally, the project is supported and guided by Meyer Turku’s NecoLeap program, Pihla, Vaisala, Elastopoli, Oerlikon Balzers, and TK-Tiimi.
