CLIC Innovation supported Maailmanpuu, a collaborative initiative coordinated by the City of Jyväskylä, in developing the concept for a shared bioeconomy piloting and innovation platform. CLIC helped shape a shared vision and strategic focus areas and laid the groundwork for the platform’s future business, operating, governance and funding models and its role in the broader innovation ecosystem.

CLIC Innovation supported the development of Maailmanpuu through two consecutive assignments.
In the initial feasibility study in 2025, CLIC developed preliminary operating, business and funding models for Maailmanpuu, including potential funding sources and a high-level roadmap towards implementation.
In the following Work Package 1 in spring 2026, CLIC deepened the analysis of Maailmanpuu’s market and operating environment, stakeholder networks and positioning. Based on desk research, stakeholder engagement and interviews, the work supported the definition of the platform’s purpose and vision, potential focus areas, strategic positioning and recommendations for further development.
Maailmanpuu was launched as part of Jyväskylä’s ecosystem development activities within the bio- and fibre-based economy. The initiative aims to develop a shared RDI and piloting platform that brings together companies, research organisations, funding actors and public stakeholders to accelerate the commercialisation of innovations.
The long-term ambition is to create an environment for innovation, experimentation and collaboration in bioeconomy and fibre-based technologies, while strengthening regional and national competitiveness.
CLIC’s approach began with a pre-study that laid the groundwork for Maailmanpuu’s future business, operating, governance and funding models. Stakeholder input, European benchmarking and funding analysis were used to explore alternative approaches and identify key questions for further concept development.
In the next phase, CLIC combined market and ecosystem analysis with a stakeholder survey, interviews and facilitated workshops to co-create a shared purpose and vision, identify strategic focus areas and clarify Maailmanpuu’s potential role and positioning within the broader innovation ecosystem.
The work established a shared direction for the further development of Maailmanpuu, including its purpose and vision, strategic focus areas and potential role within the broader innovation ecosystem. It also laid the groundwork for developing viable business, operating, governance and funding models.
The findings provide a basis for the next phase of concept development, stakeholder commitment and implementation planning.

“CLIC Innovation’s strong networks and subject-matter expertise provided an excellent basis for the exploratory discussions. The team took initiative, worked efficiently and remained flexible when needed. CLIC also showed an excellent ability to see both the bigger picture and its component parts, and to turn them into an action plan.”
