REMHub Project Update: Grant Agreement Signed

Rare Earth Element.
We are pleased to announce that the EU has officially signed the grant agreement for the REMHub project, titled “Rare Earth and Permanent Magnets Hub for a Resilient Europe. “As previously reported, this project has been approved for financing under the Horizon Europe program Resilient value chains 2024 (HORIZON-CL4-2024-RESILIENCE-01-08).

CLIC Innovation is the coordinating partner for this project, which will officially start around October 2024 and run for four years. The project has a total budget of €18 million, with an EU grant of €16 million. The REMHub consortium consists of  24 partners from Finland, Spain, Estonia, Italy, Slovenia, and Ireland.

The project’s objectives include developing and testing novel technologies for the exploration and primary production of rare earth elements (REEs), recovery of REEs from side streams, and recycling permanent magnets. Additionally, REMHub will focus on creating technologies for the traceability of REEs and permanent magnets within the EU and developing methodologies for designing electric motors that facilitate recycling permanent magnets with reduced use of heavy rare earth elements (HREEs). The ultimate aim is to establish a cutting-edge digital innovation hub that drives EU excellence in Rare Earth Elements and permanent magnets, offering a range of services in REE.
